WE ARE SID BUCK RECORDS

Sid Buck Records is a rocksteady & reggae-focused label dedicated to re-releasing the groundbreaking compositions of the legendary sound engineer Sid Bucknor. This collection will feature a curated selection of his most iconic works from the 60s and 70s, showcasing his undeniable influence on the development of the reggae genre. From his early experimentation with dub techniques to his innovative use of instrumentation, Sid Bucknor redefined the boundaries of reggae music. He cemented his place in the annals of music history.

Sid Bucknor has worked with all the leading studios, record labels, and artists of the time in the reggae space, such as Studio 1, Treasure Isle, Chalk Farm, Dynamic Sounds, Channel 1, Tuff Gong, and Trojan. He also worked with legendary reggae artists, including Bob Marley, Alton Ellis, Desmond Dekker, Ebony sisters, Webber Sisters, and BB Seaton. He evolved from a sound engineer to composer and producer over the years and released many of the iconic songs on his own labels JamCan, Third World and Tropical Records. Sadly much of Sid’s work has been unrecognized, and it is only now that account has been taken of his vast input to Jamaican music.

“This lack of recognition is not just for Sid Bucknor but many other Jamaican artists of the time. Hence, “Come out of darkness” by Spanky Brown, released on Sid’s JamCan label, drives our mission to bring integrity in the reggae genre” – Quote by Byron Bucknor.

Whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering his work for the first time, this label is a must-have for any music lover. So, put on your headphones, turn up the volume, and get ready to experience the timeless sounds of Sid Bucknor.

Irie-Mag-9x6-Digital-Reggae-10-08-Sid-Bucknor-Cover-750x500

Sid Bucknor, a man that can be dubbed as the ingenious mind responsible for the finished mixes and editing of the overall sound and the prolific creations of the reggae genre, is a name that is synonymous with reggae music of the ’60s and ’70s. If you own a vintage reggae vinyl from that time period, there is a high probability that “Norman “Sid” Bucknor” was either the sound engineer, composer, producer or even the label owner of that vinyl.
